Recently, it has been demonstrated that box splines are particularly suitable for the choice of basis functions for tomographic reconstruction [12]. Box splines are multivariate generalization of B-splines that include tensor-product B-splines as special case, but are generally non-separable [13]. It was demonstrated that the space of box splines is closed under Radon and X-ray transforms [14]. Therefore, one can use higher order methods for improving the accuracy of reconstruction [12] and reduction of approximation error introduced by discretization.
